Biography

Michael R. Johnson is committed to fighting for your rights. As a criminal defense attorney, Michael has the experience you need to advise and defend you at any stage of a case, whether during an initial interaction with police, a jury trial, or an appeal or post-conviction proceeding. Throughout his career, Michael has gained vast experience litigating cases involving forensic issues such as DNA evidence, fingerprint evidence, cell phone data, and forensic psychology.

Michael initially began working with DNA as a student studying biology in college. He continued working with DNA in a research laboratory where he gained hands on experience with DNA collection, amplification, and analysis. After graduating with a degree in biological sciences, Michael worked in a chemistry research laboratory for two years before attending law school. His scientific background and experience placed him in a unique position to confront forensic science issues in the law.

Following law school, Michael worked in the Law Offices of Chicago-Kent College of Law from 2012 to 2018, where he gained substantial experience in criminal defense matters, including many cases involving forensic science. Throughout his career he has devoted a significant portion of his practice to appeal and post-conviction work, where he has a record of success. Michael has likewise gained experience with civil rights cases such as malicious prosecution and other issues resulting in wrongful convictions.
